Earthbound was the sixth serial of Season 40 of Doctor Who. It was written by Gareth Roberts, directed by Euros Lyn and starred Aidan Gillen as the Tenth Doctor & Miranda Raison as Jessica Tyler.

Synopsis[]

The Doctor & Jessica arrive back in present-day London, only for the TARDIS to dematerialise, jumping time tracks and moving ahead several days. Stranded in London while they waits for the TARDIS to catch up, the Doctor & Jessica find themselves crashing at Moira's house.

As Jessica reaquaints herself with her ex-boyfriend & old friends, the Doctor proceeds to be a less-than-welcome houseguest. Meanwhile, a Bandrigan fleet approaches Earth with plans to destroy it. With no TARDIS, & armed with nothing than a toothbrush, can the Doctor save the Earth?

Worldbuilding[]

  • Moira lies to her friends by telling them Jessica has been travelling.
  • Moira attempts to get the Doctor to use the alias "John from Ireland".
  • The Doctor drinks a Pepsi in Moira's house
  • Moira is shown sticking the Doctor's sonic screwdriver into his mouth. Sticking a sonic screwdriver into one's mouth results in tooth extraction, but the screwdriver is capable of putting them back in.
  • The Bandrigan threat is only minor, and only their vessels are seen on Moira's television before the Doctor masks the Earth from their sensors, tricking them into leaving.
  • The Doctor is a skilled football player.
  • The Doctor is savvy enough with video games to find a way to win a shoot-em-up without resorting to digital violence. He also adjusts Moira's TV so that it picks up TV programmes from a decade in the future, as well as images of an alien fleet in space.
