Season 27 of Doctor Who ran between 12 September 1990 and 12 December 1990. It starred Sylvester McCoy as the Seventh Doctor, Sophie Aldred as Ace & Julia Ormond as Raine Cunningham. The season opened with Earth Aid and concluded with Alixion.

The end of an era[]

Early into the year, Andrew Cartmel had announced that he had left the show to work on Casualty. Replacing him as Script Editor would be Ben Aaronovitch, who previously wrote Remembrance of the Daleks & Battlefield.

With a new Script Editor & a new controller, John Nathan-Turner was finally given the chance to step down as Producer after Season 27. Replacing him would be Ian Fraser.

Furthermore, both Sylvester McCoy & Sophie Aldred announced that this would be their last season as the Doctor & Ace respectively.

Casting the cat burgular[]

Replacing the character of Ace would be an upper class cat burgular named Raine Cunningham, played by Julia Ormond. She would debut in part one of episode three.
